Somfic

Monrah

The 2024 North City Elections was held between 17 and 24 August 2024, as part of the 2024 HelloClan City Elections. It was the second election held in the series following the 2024 Swamp City Elections. In a tight race, Somfic defeated Monrah by one vote and was elected the mayor of North City by the players of HelloMiners. The race was notable for it's highly contested and controversial campaigns, with significant controversy arising from alleged electoral interference by the Deep State pushing for Somfic, and a notable conflict of interest by candidate Monrah, being a member of the Agora sisters.

Possible candidates

Prior to nominations, Edgewurth announced that they were considering running for the role of mayor of North City, however withdrew their candidacy before nominations opened in order to prioritise their role as a developer and work on the HelloMiners Wiki Project. Somfic and Monrah both announced their candidacies before nominations officially opened.

Officially nominated

The following people put themselves forward for the North City Elections:

Somfic

Somfic officially launched their campaign on August 11. Somfic ran directly opposed to Monrah and the 'Agora sisters', whose megapot in North City had become a source of much controversy. Somfic criticised the plot as one of North City's 'biggest mistakes', and called for it's immediate eviction. Somfic also ran on a rejuvination platform for the entire district, highlighting the underutilisation of the Helloclan Train Station and a widespread abandonment of the area. Despite Somfic having had a bout of inactivity before the election was held, Somfic had extensive previous experience as mayor of Valley City and the renovation of New Jamaica in Montego Bay.

Monrah

Monrah announced their candidacy on the same day as Somfic through unofficial channels. Monrah campaigned extensively against the supposed existence of a "Deep State" that was allegedly actively undermining Monrah's campaign to create support for Somfic. Despite being a co-owner of the largest plot in North City as a member of the Agora sisters, Monrah's candidacy was seen by many as largely being a troll, joke effort.

ObamaPentagon

ObamaPentagon ran as a candidate for North City mayor. Seen as a third-way candidate, they did not receive the similar levels of enthusiasm from the community as Monrah and Somfic had.

Controversy

Deep State involvement

Throughout the campaign, Monrah levelled significant criticism against Somfic and alleged that their candidacy was supported by the existence of the Deep State. The Deep State, an unproven conspiracy alleging the existence of a cabal of political elites within staff ranks and the Southern Union for Development, an organisation of city owners, was accused of tipping the election in Somfic's favour.

Electoral fraud

Monrah accused Somfic of buying votes to ensure that they had won the election. Somfic staunchly denied these accusations, and the election was not found to have any fraudulent elements.

Assassination attempts

There were two assassination attempts made against Monrah by agents. During the Mayoral Debates, it was confirmed that Somfic had placed an assassination device under the podium that Monrah was standing on in an attempt to silence their opponents.

It was also confirmed that Somfic had ordered out the assassination of Monrah via a shooting, in addition to the bomb threat. On the 7th of August, Somfic contacted fellow player beak_boy and requested a contact for someone to carry out an assassination against Monrah. Consequentially a now-deleted advertisement was placed over official channels requesting for any available hitmen. It was confirmed that ObamaPentagon would attempt to carry out this assassination, however these plans never came to fruition.

Candidate behaviours

All candidates were criticised for their behaviour during their respective campaigns, resulting in NarwhalsRcool threatening to disqualify all three candidates.
