The Southern Union serves as an extension to the Southern Union for Development, and acts as a union between states, predominantly in the southern hemisphere, made for united development, prosperity, and progress.

How it works

It builds on the foundation of the S.U.D., being the promotion of collaboration, connectivity and prosperity amongst its member states. Member states are referred to as Charter states, which means they follow the Southern Union Charter, Statutes and Statutory Treaties. Statutory Treaties in the Southern Union are binding, meaning cities are required to follow conditions that have been unanimously voted on.

Purposes

The purposes of the Southern Union are described in the following ways:

• To promote collaboration amongst member states by providing a platform for participating governments to easily connect with each other
• To promote connectivity amongst member states by financing, constructing, maintaining and promoting shared infrastructure including but not limited to highways, regional roads and railways
• To promote connectivity amongst member states by sharing roleplay infrastructure
• To promote prosperity amongst member states by working together to create strong economies and foster domestic and foreign investments.

Principles

• To offer all nations an equal right of representation on the international stage
• To interact in all matters representing the union in an ethical, equal, and professional manner
• To act as a neutral arbiter in all socioeconomic decisions and discussions, whether external or internal

History

The Southern Union was proposed as a "platform for discussion" on a "voluntary basis", with "Assembly Statutes", a "SUD Monetary/Infrastructure Fund" and "votes on a budget". The Southern Union was initially discussed in the S.U.D. chatroom on September 24th, and a vote on whether the S.U.D. should be upgraded was proposed on September 25th by nightemperor. The Southern Union began accepting new members on October 3rd. The first Charter states to register were Alexandria, Bayview, Cardiff, Trakai, and Valnir. Cardiff rescinded its membership on October 27th. Sodom registered as a Charter state on October 27th.

The Southern Union created a political party within the HelloMiners Player Senate on October 27th named the Southern Unionist Party. It describes itself as "a big tent party" with "a focus on bringing good infrastructure and roleplay to HelloMiners to enhance the experience of all players". The party is formed of Southern Union members, however remains open to any member of the senate.
